Filming Blog: The Hard Work Continues!

Image
Hello and welcome back to my blog! The first few scenes of my film were finished. I was very happy about how smoothly things were running, especially compared to my last project. Since, the progress was so well, I suggested that my group take a short break. Now that I was hydrated and full of energy, I was ready to continue the filming.  The next scene that was filmed was in the hallway. I wanted it to be slightly dark to create a suspenseful feeling, but I didn’t want the video to be low quality due to the lack of light. The most important thing that I had to do was make sure that the environment was silent. Since the film is about the last girl on Earth, there cannot be any signs of other human life in the film. This meant that Hailey’s family could not be seen or heard anytime throughout the film. To ensure this was the case, I made sure that any room we wanted to film in was empty. To make sure it was quiet, Hailey’s parents and siblings were kinda enough to go to the park while we

Filming Blog: Off To A Good Start

Hello and welcome back to my blog! Now that I’ve finished all my research and preparation, my group and I decided to start filming. Since my film takes place in the morning, I wanted it be bright outside. To account for this, my group started filming immediately after school was over.  When I got to Hailey’s house, I knew there would be a few things to do before the filming started. To make sure it was quiet, Hailey’s parents and siblings were kinda enough to go to the park while we filmed.  The filming processed started in Hailey’s bedroom. I wanted it to seem like an early morning, so I turned off the lights but opened

Preparation Blog: Finding the Right Tunes

Hello and welcome back to my blog! Now that I’ve finished my research on Oceanwalk mall, I was almost ready to start filming. However, before I started filming I wanted to look for the music that I would be placing over many of the scenes in my film. A major part of dystopian films is the background music used. Typically, these films use dark or eerie music to build suspense. The music can even be used to set a more serious tone to the film. Nonetheless, finding music can be a lengthy process. Issues such as copyright have to be considered. While I would usually wait until after filming to do this, I know that the editing process for my film may take some time. Therefore, I’ve decided to look for the music I will be using now.  The website that I decided to use was YouTube. I knew that most artists uploaded their music to this social media website. That meant I would have the most options when looking for what music to use. I went to the search engine on YouTube and typed in “Dystopian

Preparation Blog: Scoping the Place Out

Hello and welcome back to my blog! Last week I planned to visit oceanwalk mall. However, since I was not in the county, I decided to research on the safety of the abandoned mall. While this research proved to be very helpful, it couldn’t replace the real experience. So, now that I’m back from my trip, I decided to go check it out.  While, I could have waited for the weekend to visit the mall, I decided to go after school since it was a Monday. This is meant not many people would be around, since the mall is by Hollywood beach and people only tend be down there on the weekends. After my mom picked me up from school, we drove to oceanwalk mall. My mom parked a bit away from the actual mall, so I had to walk for a few minutes. With me I had my phone to use as a flashlight in case it was dark and to contact anybody in case of an emergency. Once I got to the mall I was surprised to see that the entrance was still in such good condition. I approach the entrance doors and opened them to go in

Update Blog: Far From Home

Hello and welcome back to my blog! This week I planned on continuing my filming process. The first thing I wanted to do was check out the filming location. I knew that the mall was abandoned, so I was concerned about getting inside and whether it was safe to go. However,  this week I am away on a school trip hours away from the  mall. This meant I wasn’t able to visit until I got back. So, before going to the mall, I decided to look for reviews from others who have.  The first place I went to was my friend who lived in Hollywood. He told me that he visited the mall some time back and that it was safe structure wise. However, I was warned about homeless people in the building. This caused some safety concerns for me, as I didn’t want to run into anybody who could be potentially aggressive or violent while filming. I alerted my group about this concern and we all decided to avoid filming in any part of the mall that had someone present.  The next thing I wanted to figure out was getting

Filming Blog: Getting The Tools

Hello and welcome back to my blog! For my final task, I knew I wanted it to be filmed on an actual camera this time and not on a phone. This would be my first time using a camera for this class, as I forgot to charge it during the last project and had to use my phone. To get the camera, I went to my teacher and asked if my group could sign one out. When I got the camera, I knew that other people’s films from our previous projects would be on there. So, using the USB memory recorder, I knew that the camera could be connected to a laptop. Once connected, previous films could be deleted and space could be made for my upcoming project.  Another thing that I knew my group needed was a tripod. In my opening sequence, I wanted to use a tilt. With the tripod, I would be able to use techniques like this in my film. The tripod would also provide better stability. In the last project, I had to re-film many scenes because my hands were shaking. Thankfully, one of my group members has one at home.

Planning Blog: Storyboard

Hello and welcome back to my blog! Page One: The film starts with a teenage girl, named Hailey, being awoken by the sound of her blaring alarm clock. An eyeline match then cuts to a close up of the alarm clock. A title is placed above it before she hits snooze. Next, a close up of shows Hailey’s feet as she steps out of bed. She stretches to wake up before yelling out to her mom. When she hears no response, she decides to stumble into her bathroom to get ready.  Page Two: Once in the bathroom, Hailey bends over into the sink to wash her face. A title is placed above her head. After washing her face, she examines in the mirror before leaving the bathroom. Using a tracking shot, the teen is followed out into the hallway where she calls out for her mother again. A title is placed on the closed bathroom door. Hailey then peers out into the hall using an over the shoulder shot. A title is shown on the wall beside her. A pan is used to show the empty living room, which prompts a flashback

Title Research: Blade Runner

Hello and welcome back to my blog!     1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?   The first title displayed is a title slide of the producers of the movie. Then, the main actors name is shown. Later, the title of the movie portrayed before a title slide of each actor is introduced. Next, there's a slide of the supervising editor, and a slide of the person who composed, arranged, performed, and produced the film's music. A slide of the person who designed the production is then shown, before a slide of the director of photography. Further, a slide of who did the screenplay is displayed, and then the directors slide is shown. Finally, a minute and a half sequence tells the history of what occurred before the events of the movie. 2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?   The image of the title is prioritized in the opening sequence. This is because the slides of the names of everyone that took part in the production of the film all look the same,
