Preparation Blog: Finding the Right Tunes

Hello and welcome back to my blog! Now that I’ve finished my research on Oceanwalk mall, I was almost ready to start filming. However, before I started filming I wanted to look for the music that I would be placing over many of the scenes in my film. A major part of dystopian films is the background music used. Typically, these films use dark or eerie music to build suspense. The music can even be used to set a more serious tone to the film. Nonetheless, finding music can be a lengthy process. Issues such as copyright have to be considered. While I would usually wait until after filming to do this, I know that the editing process for my film may take some time. Therefore, I’ve decided to look for the music I will be using now.

The website that I decided to use was YouTube. I knew that most artists uploaded their music to this social media website. That meant I would have the most options when looking for what music to use. I went to the search engine on YouTube and typed in “Dystopian music royalty free.” I made sure to add royalty free in the search so that I didn’t have to ask permission or purchase the music to use in my film. Instantly, after pressing search, I was met with many options. The first video I clicked on was a dystopian cyberpunk mix. The music felt a bit too upbeat and sci-fi like, which didn’t match the tone of my film. The next video, however, was a perfect fit. The music was very deep and serious without being too sci-fi or horror like.

To make sure I didn’t loose the video, I downloaded it to my laptop. I then saved it to a folder where I kept all my documents and downloads for this project. With that, I had the music for my film. This is Kyra signing off!
