Creative Critical Reflection

How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? School PSAs typically have a few conventions that are used. One common convention is a message at the end of the video. My commercial’s message was a group introduction of the team as the Fort Lauderdale Mock Trial team. Another common convention is the costuming used. Normally, school PSAs have student actors dressed in regular attire, such as jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers. My production challenges this convention with the use of formal courtroom attire. Instead of wearing jeans and t-shirts, we wore suits and blazers. My commercial represents the issue of the justice system. With an outdated system, it will be my generation that is responsible for being the change we want to see. By advertising the mock trial team, we join the fight against ignorance of our justice system within the younger generation. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed

Empire Mock Trial Commercial

Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog! This is my PSA commercial advertising my school's mock trial team. I had so much fun filming this video with my friends and taking shots all around the school. I'm so proud of the hard work that went into making this and can't wait to see how we improve. Hope you enjoy this video as much as I did. This is Kyra signing off!

Review Blog: Final Decisions

Image
Hey guys, welcome back to my blog! While my group has finished making our edits, we still had a big decision to make when it came to sound. I and Marvin really liked the idea of using the instrumental of  Flashing Lights by Kanye. We chose that song as our victory song for our mock trial competition, so we thought it would be perfect for our video. To resolve the issue, I got on a facetime call and we all had a discussion. Mya liked the idea of the song but had one small issue. Since the video could be potentially posted on other platforms, such as Facebook, it may run into copyright problems. To avoid this she suggested we use royalty-free music. I suggested we make two versions, one with Flashing Lights and one with royalty-free music. Once we did more research on copyright on social media platforms, we would choose a version. After all the discussion, we chose to use royalty-free music to avoid any complications.  With the music chosen, It was time to review. We all really liked the

Editing Blog: Choosing the Right Clips

Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog! After my group finished the filming, it was time to start editing. Since I recorded the scenes on my phone, I needed to look through each take before sending it to my other group member to edit. I took my time looking at each take until I found the one I liked the most. With each take that I liked, I saved it to a folder so it wouldn't get lost in the sea of other videos on my phone. Even though I had found the scene that would be used, a lot of them had beginnings that were too long, or we started talking in the background before I cut the camera. Due to this, I cut the videos to remove all the shots we didn't want in the final cut. After I did this, I sent them to my group member, Mya, who did the main editing. Using the app iMovie, she created a new project. All the clips I sent her were added to this new project. While I cut the clips beforehand, they were still a little choppy when they were put together. To fix this, Mya cut them

Filming Blog: Around Campus

Hey everyone, welcome back to my blog! My group and I started our filming on Friday, September 30th. I arrived at school dressed for our filming in a black pantsuit. Since I would be filming most scenes, I brought my phone and ensured it was fully charged. Everyone met during second period to start the process. Due to unexpected circumstances, one of the members had to leave early. To make up for this, we change some things and I had to film the member's introduction and the ending early. I wanted to make sure that we were using a variety of shots and camera techniques, so I started our first scene with a pan of the courtroom while the first few members did their introductions. After this, I ran out to the senior patio to film the next scene. I got a great two-shot of the next member, who was sleeping on a bench, being awoken then telling the camera their name. For the following scene, it was me and Marvin's turn to give our introductions, so we let another member film the sc

Storyboard For My School PSA Commercial

Hello and welcome back to my blog! Scene One: The first scene will start with Mya opening up the door to the courtroom. She will introduce herself, welcome the viewer to the courtroom, and then go look for the rest of the members. The camera will pan around the room to fully view the scene. Finally, the camera will turn to Charlie and Kai.  Scene Two: The second scene will start with Charlie introducing himself. He would state his name and then, similar to a lawyer examining a witness, will ask Kai to introduce herself. After Kai says her name the camera will pan back to Mya who will go looking for the other members.  Scene Three: The third scene will jump cut to Joey asleep on a patio bench. Mya will walk into the frame and wake him up. Once awake he will introduce himself to the camera.  Scene Four:  The fourth scene will start with me and Marvin on a different bench. We will be in the middle of a conversation when Mya walks up to us and has us introduce ourselves. After we both intr
