Intro Blog


 Hey, what's up? My name is Kyra and I'd like to welcome you to my blog! I'm 15 years old and currently a sophomore at Fort Lauderdale High. While I love school as much as the next kid, there's more to me than what's in my pinnacle grade book. For starters, from a little girl to all the way now, I have loved to dance! As of right now, the styles of dance that I do are jazz, hip-hop, ballet, and tap. Every Tuesday and Thursday after school I go to my dance studio and spend hours doing one of the things I love the most. While it can be hard work, the reward of telling a story through my movements is worth it. I even recently got approved to start pointe by my dance instructor! 

In addition to dance, another one of my passions is mock trial. Through my high school's mock trial team I have gained so much confidence and have made so many new friends. Traveling to compete with schools across the globe and learning important skills for my future career are some amazing things I get to do as a member. 

Finally, another thing I love is movies. Since childhood, I have had hundreds of DVDs of my favorite movies, ranging from Princess and the Frog to Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure. Whether I'm sad and in desperate need of a good laugh, or in the mood to experience a quick scare, a good movie always fills me up with joy. It is my love for movies that influenced me to take AICE Media Studies. While watching TV is fun, I've always been curious about the work that goes in behind the scenes. Questions such as why the director chose certain lighting, or how they convey such intense emotion through a screen, have always run through my mind. Through this class, I hope to learn about the techniques directors use and why they use them. As I go on this learning adventure I hope to develop an even greater appreciation for films. Small Set Backs

Hello and welcome back to my blog!  Just when everything seemed to be falling into place for our film project, a curveball was thrown our way. Andres, one of our group members and the persons whose house we are planned to use became sick. With his health as the top priority, we had to postpone filming at his house. With this unexpected setback, I didn’t want it to ruin our plans entirely. Instead, I saw it as an opportunity to regroup and replan. The first thing I wanted to do was make some changes to the storyboard. Instead of started off in the kitchen, I thought it would be better to start with some establishing shots of the house. This way, our viewers would be better eased into the plot. I also realized that our warped lamp and mis-colored plant scene were not going to be effective. I decided to test out editing it in my house, and found out that it wasn’t as easy as it seemed. When I tried to color the plant, parts of the background also became colored and it looked very bad....

Review Blog: The Final Touches

Hello and welcome back to my blog! My journey through this music video process has been an interesting one, but it is now coming to an end. However, we still had one last issue. Something was missing from our editing in our music video, but we weren't sure what it was.  At first, I thought it was clip lengths. Maybe the scenes were too long and therefore making the video seem boring or uninteresting. When I rewatched the video, I realized it wasn't the length, but instead the editing. I brought this up to my group members and they agreed that we needed to add another editing technique to our video. After some deliberation, we decided to add a split screen at the beginning of the video. This split screen would allow us to show more of the getting ready process in an easy and eye-catching way.
